Senior Moments

Last weekend, the weather FINALLY cooperated and stayed dry long enough for me to finish my brother’s senior portraits.  We took most of them last fall.  However, I had a fantastic photo idea a couple months ago, and just needed a dry weekend day to actually take the picture.

Get it?  Class of ‘12.  I love the idea, because it’s not something you can do every year.  And it also is made so much better by the fact that he actually DOES track.

Speaking of senior moments, Dakota was not the only one having them this weekend.  While we were at the track taking this picture, we noticed some idiotic teenage boys.  The high jump mats had been left out to dry for just a little while that morning.  During that time, these geniuses had decided to stack them all on top of each other, then take turns climbing up the football goalpost and jumping off onto the mats.  What is wrong with teenage boys?  It’s like they have no brain cells.

Anyway, my dad is the head track coach, so we kept trying to call and text him to let him know what was going on.  He wasn’t answering his phone, so we decided to just go find him.  As we were walking to my car, Dakota tried to call my dad one more time, and oddly enough we heard the faint sound of a phone ringing close by.  We turned around, and realized that the little storage shed by the finish line was ringing.  Sure enough, when we found my dad, we also found that he had locked his cell phone in the storage shed.  There’s a senior moment for you! (Love you, Dad!  The story was just too funny not to tell it.  If it makes you feel better, I tried to put cheese away in the kitchen cupboard instead of the refrigerator yesterday.)

March Picture-A-Day Challenge, Conquered!

I have to say, doing the March picture-a-day challenge was NOT easy.  I can’t believe that I let my life be so crazy and hectic to the point that I can’t remember to take one single picture in a day.  I am so glad that I waited until the end of the month to post them, because let’s face the facts – I got behind on pictures multiple times.  The whole month got started off on the wrong foot with Supergerm 2012, when I could barely function as a normal human being, let alone be bothered with photographs.  Luckily, I regained my senses around the 10th and got myself caught up.  Also luckily, I have a fantastically helpful husband who took my March 4th photo (bedside table) for me while I was oblivious to the world.  He was also gracious enough to take the March 31st photo (where I relax) while I was driving.  Enjoy the photos, because I will probably never be ambitious enough to do this again!

Picture-A-Day Challenge: March 2012

Earlier this month, I tripped across a blog where the reader was doing the February 2012 Photo-a-Day Challenge from the blog Fat Mum Slim.  It was already several days into February, and I was a little too overwhelmed with life at the time to attempt the challenge retroactively.  I did bookmark it into that little place in my mind, “Things I should do in an attempt to challenge myself and work towards self-improvement”.  The photo challenges are just descriptive enough to point you in a direction, but vague enough that you get to define the meaning with the picture you take.  I liked the idea of a challenge that makes me think and use my mind in a more creative way, as opposed to challenges that just call for logical solutions.  Plus, maybe I would finally get to know our camera a little better, beyond the basic automatic scene settings.  Unfortunately, “I should try that sometime” thoughts like this often get bookmarked in my brain in haphazard fashion and are quickly forgotten when logic calls.

But tonight, I was creatively avoiding logic (cleaning my house) by seeking out the creative (Pinterest!) and stumbled across the pin I had done of the February challenge.  Thinking, hmmm, it’s almost the end of the month, I wonder if this gal has a March challenge?  I visited her website, and sure enough, the March list is posted!

I am posting this now for two reasons:  One, because by posting it I will actually have to follow through with it.  Someone will read this (even if it is only my parents and my husband), and therefore I must hold myself accountable for saying I would do it.  Two, in hopes that some of my friends and family members who read this blog (again, maybe only my parents and husband, but that’s three!), will see this and be inspired to challenge themselves.  I feel like our lives are all so hectic and busy these days that it can sometimes zap us all of our creativity, until it’s buried so deep that we don’t even know where to find it.  Creativity = fun, and we can all use a little of that.  I am going to take my pictures every day, and then post them in a little blog at the end of the month.  HAVE FUN!
